Modcloth – Stylish Surprise!

modcloth_stylish_surprise

I am super behind on this post, but better late than never!

You will already know that I love Modcloth, as they featured in my recent International Brand’s Wish List post here, but with them being in the U.S. and the dreaded customs taxes etc. etc.  But, you will also know, that occasionally they do what they call a Stylish Surprise where you pay a set cost, which is generally below the tax threashold (if you stick to one item), and you get yourself an amazing item at a bargain cost!  This happened recently, and a few of us bloggers got in on the action and decided to do a mini challenge off the back of it!  So here is what I got this time round.

I had seen this dress on the website previously when I was doing a bit of online window shopping, but I am afraid I cannot remember what it was called and obviously it is now no longer available, as the Stylish Surprise items tend to be the last few items of something they have left in their sale….. You never know what you might find on eBay though!

This is a 3XL and is very comfortable and generous, as it is of a stretchy knitted design/fabric, its just a shame it is starting to be a little too warm for the warmer months coming up, but fab for work in the Autumn and Winter!   I was very pleased with what I got, and know this will get lots of wear, and has already had a few outings on a cooler days in the office!

Make sure you check out the other lovelies who grabbed themselves a bargain!

International Wish List Blogger Challenge

Although there is a lot more choice amongst retailers and brands these days for the fatties, there are always those just out of our reach across the pond that it just isn’t cost effective to place too many orders with, if any, due to shipping costs and custom charges, but nonetheless they have a great deal of pretties I would desperately like to get my grubby little mits on!  So, when Debz came up with the idea of a challenge where we put together a wish list based around our fave international brands and retailers, I thought it was a really good idea, and decided to get involved.

One of my absolute fave brands is Modcloth, and I have been lucky to get my hands on a few items thanks to the lovely Becky and her blog sale, and the fact they every now and again run a Stylish Surprise where you pay a much reduced price for a dress, other apparel, shoes or accessories, and the cost generally comes in under the customs bracket, as long as you stick to the one item…. Lol! The only problem there is  you only know what size you will get, you don’t actually know what you will get, it’s like a lucky dip, and so much fun!

So, to start with here is my Modcloth Wish List:

image

Good Enough to Eat Dress – $69.99
Sweet Your Heart Out Dress – $99.99
Catch Some Berets Dress – $69.99

The plus size range go up to a 4XL, 28/30.

Next up is IGIGI.   Not the cheapest available out there, but definitely if you want something a little bit special these are your guys!  I have seen a few bloggers who have managed to get their hands on items, and they look amazing.   I would love one of their gowns for the up and coming Model XL pagent.

So here is my Igigi Wish List:

image

Adelle Dress in Noir – $168.00
Blake Gown in Bombay Teal – $198.00
Lakshmi Gown in Merlot – $408.00

Igigi sizes also go up to a size 30.

And finally, Pin Up Girl Clothing.  You know I’m a sucker for a bit of 50’s style, and having seen both Georgina from Fuller Figure Fuller Bust, as well as a few other bloggers wearing their frocks, I can’t help but swoon!

And here is my PUG Clothing Wish List, again with sizes up to a 4X.  This one was a tough one, I could spend a lot of money here:

image

Ava Swing Turquoise Taffeta (Plus Size) – $120.00
Heidi Tipsy Elephant Dress (Plus Size) – $102.00
Alfreda Dress in Hawaiian Parrot Print (Plus Size) – $140.00

So if money was no object, shipping fees weren’t so astronomical, or customs charges didn’t exist, where would you spend your pennies?  You might get some inspiration from reading some of the other beautiful bloggers posts taking part in this challenge, so make sure you check them out:

A Romantic Beach Stroll….

With a number of other bloggers, I was recently contacted by ModCloth asking if I wanted to participate in their “Uniquely You” campaign by creating a cohesive story board of my own using Wanelo.  If you haven’t come across ModCloth before, founded right out of high school by then sweethearts (now spouses), Susan Gregg Koger and Eric Koger– ModCloth has been lovingly built on a passion for remarkable fashion. Today, they are a top e-retailer of indie clothing, accessories, and decor, and provide an engaging shopping experience where you, the customer, can have a voice! In just a few years, they have grown from humble college dorm room to “America’s Fastest-Growing Retailer”…. Who also ship Internationally, including the UK!!  Read more about them and their story here.

In order to take part in their challenge, they would provide me with an image of an article of clothing or accessory and ask that I build an ensemble around it using up to seven other pieces currently being sold on ModCloth, along with some insight into what inspired the look.  Each week ModCloth will pick a winner to be featured on their own Wanelo page with a link back to the creator’s blog.

Wanelo (“wah-nee-loh,” from Want, Need, Love) is an online shopping community bringing together stores, products and people into a single social platform. Users can purchase products off the app after it directs them to the website. Wanelo launched in 2010 and is headquartered in San Francisco’s SoMa district. (It has been likened to Pinterest before.)

I was given 1. Summer Night Stoll Dress in red, available in sizes up to 4x, and affordable at $44.99.  Once I looked at this beautiful dress, and read the little story ModCloth give each of their pieces, I was instantly thinking about a romantic moonlit stroll on a beach on a summer’s evening. With this in mind I headed on to investigate the website to put together the final ensemble and here is what I came up with….

PhotoGrid_2014-04-15_22_21_31

2. Starlight Stoll Sandal – $34.99 (do you see a pattern forming here….?)
3. Romantic Heroine Jacket – $64.99 – to keep the chill off as the summer night creeps in… (Only in a S M L)
4. Chain the Rules Hair Comb – $14.99
5. Laud of the Rings Bracelet in Gold – $24.99
6. Time to Get Down Earrings – $12.99
7. In the Distance NecklaceAlong  – $34.99
8. Hollywood if I Could Sunglasses – $11.99 – for the late afternoon setting sun

I hope you like what I have put together here…. Have you ever bought anything from ModCloth? I’d like to hear about your experience, maybe share your look with me, ModCloth and Wanelo.
